Backstage.

With a little help from the famous Carter Goodrich who got a well deserved Annie Award for his work on 'Ratatouille' last Friday. Congrats.

Luc, how large are most of these sketched out at?

Hi Ben,
They range from 10 to 16 fields on animation paper.
Cheers.

It's surprising to see the angles in these layouts. I always thought that in a 3d feature, you would work out what the room would look like in some basic perspective and orthographic views, combine that with the viz dev pieces and start modeling. Maybe hook up the shot to the board once it's modeled.

But here they are, pencil layouts with great camera work and shot set-up/composition even before it's in the computer.

Thanks for posting, Luc. I get lost for hours on your blog.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the interest. Indeed you are right, about the orthoghraphic views and the basic perspective but I didn't want to bore you with those. Besides they were done later and strictly to the benefit of the modelling dept. I perfer to show the vis dev pieces that were done at first and give the best impression of the location and are more interesting to look at, not to mention a good deal more interesting to create.
Cheers.
